Matt Damon Offers Update on Bourne 5, a Decade After Last Sequel
It has been ten years since audiences last saw Jason Bourne in 2016’s Jason Bourne, and Matt Damon has offered an update on Bourne 5. He confirmed the sequel is something that’s actively being worked on, and it certainly sounds like we haven’t seen the last of the amnesiac hitman.
Damon first played Bourne in 2002’s The Bourne Identity, a film that, along with The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), helped redefine modern action filmmaking and earned critical acclaim. The franchise also produced an underrated Jeremy Renner–led spin-off, The Bourne Legacy (2012), while the 2016 return of Bourne was less well received.
Rights to the franchise have consolidated: NBCUniversal now owns all rights to both the "Bourne" and "Treadstone" books, giving the company freedom to expand the property on the big and small screens. As Damon put it, "We're always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them.
