Amazon MGM Studios has taken creative control of the Bond franchise from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and casting director Nina Gold is now helping to find the next star. Longtime Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams — who cast Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig — says she does not want to see Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner or Harris Dickinson take the role.

She argued that it is "absolutely essential that [Bond] retains a total enigma," saying viewers already "know so much about" the three actors and that the character should reveal as little as possible about his personal life. "We never want to see him at home. And a vital element of the whole thing is his job description.

He's licensed to kill, and we have to believe that he can do that," McWilliams added. McWilliams pointed out that Dalton and Brosnan "weren't particularly well known" before being cast, and that Craig "had a career in independent films" but was not a household name.
