Blood Message preview shows action on par with God of War
Blood Message, developed by 24 Entertainment Lin'an and published by NetEase, is a single-player, story-driven action game set in 9th-century China. The game follows messenger Pei Changguan as he travels 1,000 miles through enemy territory to deliver a message to the Tang capital, and a Summer Game Fest trailer also teased a father‑son story as the pair travel together.
A 30-minute hands‑on demo at Summer Game Fest covered a polished segment of the game and highlighted its cinematic presentation. The demo played out in a single shot, a presentation choice familiar from recent God of War titles and the Dead Space remake, and the game leaned heavily into brutal, deliberate combat.
Enemies often deflect or block attacks in extended animations, quick time events appear during fights, and repeated dodging becomes less effective over time; the reviewer died twice during the session.
