Blizzard has launched a lawsuit against Project Ascension, a private World of Warcraft server, continuing its recent legal actions against player-run servers. Earlier this year the company issued cease-and-desist orders to Turtle WoW and Stormforge, and it described Project Ascension’s use of its intellectual property as an "egregious" violation on June 12.

Project Ascension offers a classless, free-to-play take on World of Warcraft with various game modes and custom raiding, and has operated for several years. Blizzard’s initial complaint says, "The defendants … have built an entire business on large-scale, egregious, and ongoing infringement of Blizzard's intellectual property," and notes the server stands "among the largest private WoW servers available today" with its million or so players.
