Diablo 4's upcoming season looked set to disappoint after a proposed change that would have flattened the identity of the game's most powerful loot. The plan aimed to make Uniques less niche by removing their guaranteed bonuses and replacing them with completely random stats, a move that would have turned curated Uniques into Legendaries with a different color.

After a week-long playtest generated overwhelmingly negative feedback, Blizzard shifted course and adopted a compromise designed to preserve what makes Uniques distinct while increasing their usefulness. Under Season 14, Uniques will retain two guaranteed stats that fit each item's theme; the remaining bonuses will be random, and players will be able to swap out one of those random stats to better suit a build.

Uniques can also appear as Mythic Uniques with a purple tooltip, and those drops — or crafted versions — will have maxed out stats. Opening up the possibilities for Uniques should make Diablo 4's loot more broadly useful and exciting.
