Blizzard nearly added Devil May Cry-style rank to Overwatch's Shion
Shion, Overwatch’s incoming hero, carries twin pistols and a quick dash but isn’t Tracer. Blizzard leaned heavily on Devil May Cry for her design and initially built a style-rank meter that would start at D or E and climb to S as players linked abilities. The meter was dropped because it proved too stressful to manage in combat and the team couldn’t settle on how to reward an S rank.
At one point they experimented with giving Shion super speed—double the run speed of other heroes—but decided the motorcycle would provide enough of a challenge. The bike remains central: Shion can launch into the air, hang briefly, then kick the bike toward enemies, and it can explode on impact.
Her pistols fire three-round bursts before she swaps to the other; both can be fired in an X pattern for big damage, and her dash lets her move in or out of fights. Her ultimate grants three charges of an area barrage usable in place or after a short dash.
