Lionsgate has set the release date for the fourth Blair Witch film: Sept. 24, 2027. The movie, a co-production between Lionsgate and Blumhouse, was announced in April 2024. Dylan Clark, a YouTuber-turned-feature-filmmaker, was confirmed as director in April 2026.

While details are scarce, it will not be a remake of the original. Blumhouse’s recent films Obsession and Backrooms grossed hundreds of millions on relatively small budgets, with Gen Z-driven word-of-mouth and social media virality boosting ticket sales. That pattern echoes the original 1999 Blair Witch Project, which made almost $250 million on a budget under $1 million.

The original film’s viral marketing—an official website featuring missing-person posters, fake police reports and fictionalized interviews—helped convince some viewers the footage was real. Subsequent entries fared less well: Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 drew a tepid box office and critical response a year later, and Adam Wingard’s 2016 installment saw similar results.
