Binance plans to seek authorization in a different EU jurisdiction after its licensing application in Greece hit a snag. Gillian Lynch, Binance’s head of Europe and the United Kingdom, said the exchange is "not leaving Europe" and would pursue authorization elsewhere if the Greek application does not move forward.

The firm contacted other regulators but submitted a formal application only in Greece, after talks with Ireland, Latvia and Greece that met resistance over past money‑laundering penalties, its international structure and a perceived risk‑taking culture. The exchange has only days to secure authorization before the Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) transitional period ends on July 1.

The European Securities and Markets Authority said crypto service providers that remain unauthorized by the deadline must take "immediate" steps to wind down their EU activities.
