Reuters reported that Binance may be unable to serve customers in Europe if its regulatory licence application in Greece is turned down, citing two people familiar with the situation and saying the Hellenic Capital Market Commission planned to reject the MiCA application.

Binance said it has been pursuing a MiCA licence over the past 18 months and that the HCMC completed its review of the application, considering it compliant with MiCA requirements. The company also said the application was reviewed at ESMA level. A Binance spokesman said HCMC informed ESMA it viewed the application as compliant and intended to progress the licence and move to authorise at an upcoming Board meeting.

The exchange chose Greece as its MiCA jurisdiction after speculation about Malta and set up a Greek holding company in connection with the application. Crypto firms need to obtain a MiCA licence to operate in the EU by the end of this month.
