Best fragrances and scents to wear this summer

Summer calls for a refresh in fragrance. Perfumers Bryson Ammons, Darryl Do, and Teddy Haugen point to airy aquatics, modern roses, bright yuzu, unexpected spice, tropical gourmands, and milky musks as the scents to reach for this season. Ammons favors aquatic fragrances for hot, steamy summers.

He highlights D.S. & Durga's Steamed Rainbow — with red mandarin, orange, green cedar, blue almond flower, and vapors — which he says "literally smells like a water park." M.HAINEY's ETHERNET, with freshly cut grass, orange blossom, and pear, he likens to "the rolling green hills of the Windows XP background." Rose is reappearing in modern forms.

Do expects perfumers to move away from traditional tea rose toward lighter takes like Chloé Eau de Parfum with Rose & Amber, which blends peony, lychee, and freesia. Haugen recommends Diptyque's Eau Rose for its rose, chamomile, and artichoke notes, while Ammons reaches for Aesop's Rozu for a woodier rose profile.
