Bellingham carries England but rest must step up as right-back injuries bite
In East Rutherford it was "Hey Jude" that rang out after England’s 2-0 win over Panama, the victory sealing top spot in Group L. Jude Bellingham stayed on the pitch for his media duties as fans sang for the player who made the difference, scoring and assisting in an all-action display after having put England 3-2 up against Croatia earlier in the tournament.
England laboured for long spells as Thomas Tuchel’s side struggled to play through the middle and produce accurate crosses. "I know as a coach what it takes to win these matches. It's no problem if these matches feel tight, these matches feel tough. It will help us in the next match," Tuchel said.
A Bukayo Saka corner produced Bellingham’s sublime volley, and five minutes later Bellingham ran beyond Harry Kane to collect a Nico O'Reilly pass and float the cross for Kane to head home; Tuchel praised the "huge impact [from Bellingham and Kane]." There are still significant concerns at right-back.
