Barcelona linked with Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington

Lucas Herrington, 18, has emerged as a defensive standout for the Colorado Rapids this season. His rise has attracted interest from abroad, with La Liga champions Barcelona among the clubs linked.

Herrington has one goal and one assist in 15 league appearances and is already regarded as one of MLS's top young players. Tom Bogert said several clubs are monitoring the teenager, with Barcelona the biggest name linked. The Rapids declined to comment.

His form earned him a place on Australia's World Cup squad, and he could play as soon as Saturday when the Socceroos face Türkiye.

If Herrington leaves, he would be the second key defender the Rapids' scouting group has found and potentially sold for a profit in five years. In 2024 the Rapids sold Moise Bombito to OGC Nice for an initial reported fee of $7.7 million. The club are on a World Cup break and do not return to action until July 22, so whether Herrington will be available when the season resumes remains to be seen.
