Bandai Namco pits Gundams against kaiju in 2027

At Summer Game Fest, Bandai Namco revealed Gundam Rogue Orbit, an action game that pits mobile suits against a meatier class of enemy: kaiju. The brief announcement trailer shows familiar Gundam beats — a hapless grunt suit hopelessly outmatched, a white robot with a V-fin, and the sense of dashed hopes for peace in the space colonies.

The premise leans away from the human-on-human conflicts that often define Gundam’s emotional, psychological and political weight, so there’s a degree of skepticism about how closely this will feel like classic Gundam storytelling. Still, Gundams facing kaiju isn’t entirely new; that was the premise of the Mobile Suit Gundam Eight manga that began in 2025.

Visually, the trailer sells some moments: the beam sword especially looks respectable in the footage, which is enough to warrant a cautious interest. Gundam Rogue Orbit is scheduled to launch on Steam in 2027.
