Baldur's Gate 2 remake in development with original co-lead returning
Wizards of the Coast is returning to the Sword Coast, and a remake of Baldur's Gate 2 is reportedly in development with Kevin Martens, the original game's co-lead designer, back on the project. The information also suggests both Baldur's Gate titles could be remade, which would imply concurrent development.
Martens has lead design credits on Jade Empire and Throne of Bhaal, and he worked on Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect. He left BioWare in 2009 to join Blizzard as lead content designer on Diablo 3, and has been contributing to Exodus at Archetype Entertainment, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast.
The original adventures are vast, taking players across the Sword Coast to Athkatla, the drow-infested Underdark and other planes, and a pair of remakes could offer hundreds of hours of D&D play. Beamdog previously released enhanced editions of the games, but a remake would allow for more dramatic changes, and it remains unclear how closely the classics would resemble modern titles like Baldur's Gate 3.
