Bahrain condemns Iranian drone attack as ‘flagrant threat’
Bahrain said it was attacked by Iran with drones on Saturday, apparently in response to overnight US strikes on Iranian targets, and that a ship in the strait of Hormuz had also been attacked. The foreign ministry said a "number of drones" were launched, with no immediate reports of damage, and described the action as a "flagrant threat to the security of citizens and residents".
No damage or casualties were reported in the attack on the tanker, and no group claimed responsibility, though Iran was suspected. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had earlier said it targeted several sites of the "US terrorist army in the region" without specifying locations.
The US military said it had struck Iranian missile and drone locations overnight, along with coastal radar sites, in what it described as a response to an Iranian drone attack on a ship in the strait. Bahrain hosts the US navy’s fifth fleet.
