Backrooms movie is just a start toward the 'true root' of the narrative
The Backrooms movie not only drew strong reviews but also smashed A24's opening weekend record, pulling in nearly $120 million worldwide.
Director Kane Parsons said the film, adapted from his YouTube series, was never intended to be the final word. He has a contract and a hold on his end, and added, "I am definitely not done with Backrooms," suggesting more stories could follow.
Parsons also made clear he doesn't plan to abandon the platform that launched the project. He said he enjoys the creative freedom of YouTube and believes there are projects he could only realize there, so he won't limit himself to a single format.
Working under the name Kane Pixels, Parsons began making Blender-based Backrooms videos in 2022 that amassed tens of millions of views and expanded into other liminal pieces like The Oldest View and People Still Live Here. He described the film as a foot in the door toward "the true root of the narrative," which has been set up online for years.
