Backrooms director's dad revisits old Facebook plea as film hits #1 worldwide

Kane Parsons is 20 and his first feature reached No. 1 worldwide, tripling A24's previous record and even outperforming the latest Star Wars at the box office. His father, Michael Parsons, has been revisiting an older Facebook thread that traces that rise. In May 2021 Parsons posted in the Telltale Games Alumni group asking for advice for his 15‑year‑old son, noting Kane was already a self‑taught modeler, animator and VFX artist and that he hadn't taught those skills himself so as not to interfere.

Parsons the elder worked at Telltale during its mid‑2010s peak, with technical art credits on Batman, Tales From the Borderlands and Minecraft: Story Mode.
