'Backrooms' digital streaming date officially confirmed

A24's Backrooms will arrive on Premium Video on Demand platforms on Jul. 7 after a successful theatrical run. Director Kane Parsons built on an existing online mythology and captured the unsettling aesthetic that helped the film connect with audiences. The film is also being re-released as Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, with tickets appearing in some theaters.

That version is said to include roughly 15 minutes of theatrically exclusive post-credit footage; it remains unclear whether the material was shot during the original production or added afterward, and whether it will appear on the upcoming PVOD release or later home-video editions.

Whether the extra footage functions as a post-script or as a setup for future entries is unknown, but the re-release could push Backrooms' box-office totals higher and potentially past Obsession to become the year’s top-grossing horror film.
