Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2 keeps Game Boy Micro look but boosts performance
Ayaneo officially unveiled the Pocket Micro 2 in a livestream, and it leans into the original Game Boy Micro aesthetic rather than a full redesign. At first glance it resembles its predecessor, with subtle changes such as recessed TMR thumbsticks, extended curved shoulder buttons and a 3.5‑inch 960×640 IPS display, but the company positions this follow-up as a higher‑spec candybar portable.
Under the shell the Pocket Micro 2 uses a custom Snapdragon 865‑Class chipset with Adreno 650 graphics, which Ayaneo says represents a 220% performance uplift over the original’s MediaTek Helio G99. Battery capacity jumps to 3,950 mAh — 52% larger than before — though the extra power could be consumed by the enhanced internals.
There are mixed design trade‑offs. The recessed joysticks should make the device more pocket‑friendly, but similar setups have proven awkward for some users, and sticking with the angular candybar form risks the same ergonomic limitations as the first Micro compared with gripped controllers.
