Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 struggles under the weight of adapting its animated counterpart while still finding room for major character beats. The sophomore effort is better in basically every way than its first season, but it fumbles enough to make the show's future feel uncertain.

The season compresses the animated Book Two into seven episodes rather than twenty, and that concentration can feel stifling. Ba Sing Se, billed as a vast, impenetrable city, often reads like a handful of rooms and a market, while several visual effects and set choices leave the world feeling stagebound rather than immersive.

Performance-wise the cast is more at ease. Dallas Liu makes much of Zuko's internal conflict, Ian Ousley lands Sokka's range from comic moments to emotional beats, and Miyako's Toph immediately commands attention in a role that could have been a tricky live-action translation.
