Avatar: Fire and Ash hits No. 1 on Disney Plus a day after arrival
One day after arriving on Disney Plus on June 24, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash became the most-watched movie on the service in the U.S. and worldwide, per third-party tracker FlixPatrol. The film opened in theaters on December 19, 2025 and went on to make nearly $1.5 billion at the box office.
The third installment follows Jake and Neytiri as a grief-stricken family still reeling from the loss of their son, battling both human forces and rival Na’vi tribes. Cameron has long described a five-film plan, but he has also signaled a desire to make any future installments more efficiently.
Making each Avatar movie is a huge endeavor that takes years and hundreds of millions of dollars; Fire and Ash reportedly cost $350 million. “Avatar 4 and 5 are still floating out there. We’re going to be looking at some new technologies to try to do them more efficiently.
