Australian man arrested in Thailand after teenager's body found in suitcase
A 46-year-old Australian man was detained at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport as he prepared to board a Jetstar flight to Perth. Thai immigration officers stopped him at about 9.30pm on Friday and took him into custody. Pattaya city police said the arrest followed an investigation into the death of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose naked body was found inside a suitcase behind the Floating Market in Pattaya.
The victim’s body bore signs of violence and police recovered the suitcase near a railway track. Investigators reviewed CCTV that they say showed the man entering an apartment in Pattaya in the early hours of Thursday with the teenager and leaving hours later carrying a large black suitcase, which was then moved on the back of a motorbike.
The suspect denies involvement and was questioned before being detained; authorities are awaiting postmortem results and other evidence before filing charges.
