Ashley Cole set to leave Cesena after eight-game stint
Ashley Cole is set to leave his role as head coach of Serie B side Cesena after just eight matches, with his short-term contract due to expire on June 30. His brief spell failed to deliver a play-off push: Cole managed one win, three draws and four defeats as the club finished 11th.
Appointed in mid-March to replace Michele Mignani, Cole never won over supporters. Fans protested his arrival and unfurled a banner reading "Ashley Cole? No, thanks", and he faced an uphill battle to win over a sceptical fanbase and a frustrated dressing room. The appointment was largely driven by Californian co-owner Mike Melby, who knew Cole from their time at LA Galaxy, while ownership is undergoing internal restructuring.
