Arsenal's defence crumbled at right-back and set pieces failed against PSG
Kai Havertz put Arsenal ahead in the sixth minute, but Ousmane Dembélé levelled from the spot in the 65th. After a goalless extra time, Paris Saint-Germain won 4–3 on penalties; Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missed for Arsenal, while only a visibly exhausted Nuno Mendes failed to convert for PSG.
Arsenal defended resolutely for the first 62 minutes, with their compact 4-4-2 nullifying PSG’s front three. The resistance broke where many had expected — at right-back. With Jurrien Timber still building fitness and Ben White injured, Mikel Arteta picked third-choice Cristhian Mosquera, a 21-year-old centre-back by trade, for the role.
Mosquera initially contained Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but after being booked for time-wasting he brought Kvaratskhelia down in the box in the 63rd minute and Dembélé converted the penalty. Mosquera was soon replaced and Timber returned, while PSG grew more dangerous and Kvaratskhelia wasted a key chance in the 77th minute before being substituted.
