Arsenal told to back off as Bournemouth shut down Alex Scott approach
Arsenal's pursuit of midfield reinforcements stalled when Bournemouth rejected an opening enquiry for midfielder Alex Scott, with Mikel Arteta seeking to strengthen his engine room. Despite Scott's rising reputation, the Cherries have no intention of sanctioning a deal for one of their most prized assets this summer.
Bournemouth plan to retain the former Bristol City midfielder and are keen to secure a contract extension; his current deal runs for another two years. The club regard Scott as a cornerstone of their long-term plans and will not listen to offers during this transfer window.
Scott's stock has risen after a maiden England call-up last November and inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's provisional pre-World Cup training camp in Florida, even though he did not win a cap. His performances last season — 39 appearances and four goals — have attracted interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.
