Arsenal parade: 75 rescued and 16 arrests amid title celebrations
Arsenal’s long-awaited Premier League title celebrations in north London were largely festive as thousands gathered to mark the club’s first league crown in 22 years, but emergency services were kept busy by supporters climbing buildings and the use of pyrotechnics.
The London Fire Brigade said it rescued "approximately 75 people" from dangerous positions at height after fans scaled trees, rooftops and traffic lights to get a view of the open-top bus carrying Mikel Arteta and his squad. Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said most of the crowd behaved responsibly, but actions by a minority created significant hazards across the Islington area.
Pyrotechnics caused further problems, with a stray flare starting a small fire at a local hotel and triggering alarms at several other locations; the brigade said the blaze produced only minor exterior damage. Goulbourne urged supporters to avoid using pyrotechnics, particularly at stations and near buildings and other flammable materials.
