Apple TV's 'Star City' Becomes Early Streaming Hit With 94% Rating
Apple TV's new eight-part sci-fi series Star City premiered May 29 with a two-episode launch, arriving the same day For All Mankind closed its fifth season. The show expands the world created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi. Rather than acting as a prequel or a sequel, Star City runs parallel to For All Mankind.
It follows cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers inside the Soviet space program as they race to be first to the moon; although some events occur before For All Mankind, the timelines are set to converge and offer a distinct vantage point. The cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O'Casey and Alice Englert.
In just a few short days the series climbed the charts, sitting at number two on Apple TV's Global Top 10 behind Jon Hamm's Your Friends & Neighbors and at number four in the U.S. behind For All Mankind, Widow's Bay and Hamm's series. Critics have been positive: Star City holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes versus 75% for For All Mankind's first season.
