I've used both apps for years and, despite once preferring Apple Maps, I now lean toward Google Maps after testing recent updates. Apple Maps has improved steadily—features like Preferred Routes learn habitual drives and warn about delays—but Google still feels more powerful for getting from A to B.

Apple Maps offers clear turn-by-turn guidance, lane cues, speed limits, and multi-stop directions, and it’s cleaner and simpler to use. Google Maps, however, excels in routing and traffic: richer live data, route explanations, eco-friendly options, Immersive Navigation previews, and landmark-based directions that often make navigation easier.

Both apps support driving, walking, cycling, transit and offline maps, so either can handle most trips. For incident reporting and real-time alerts, Google’s broader range of report types and larger user base usually provides more detail, while Apple’s reporting options remain more basic; speed-camera and police reporting are limited in both.
