Apple could use Google's Gemini to build a smarter health coach

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference will spotlight software that will ship on the company's next products, and an expected Siri revamp could be central. Google’s Gemini is set to power the next Siri after a recent deal, a notable shift for a company that has long kept its software tightly controlled.

With AI already widespread across Android devices in 2026, the partnership could help Apple catch up in this area. Testing of Google's screenless Fitbit Air and its AI Health Coach convinced the writer that health-focused AI can be genuinely useful. A chatbot that connects to sleep, exercise and stress data can answer questions with personalized recommendations informed by an individual’s metrics, rather than offering generic advice.

The next step would be a redesigned Health app that uses collected Watch data to create daily metrics, link information across apps and surface actionable insights.
