Anthony Martial eyes Ligue 1 return after terminating Monterrey contract
Anthony Martial has agreed to terminate his contract with Monterrey and is seeking a return to Ligue 1 after a brief spell in Mexico. The former Manchester United and Monaco striker wants to relaunch his career back in France. He and his entourage have been working to find a suitable suitor, with his name offered to several sporting directors across France once his exit from Mexico was made official.
Salary expectations and declining statistics in recent seasons have cooled interest from a number of clubs. Nice remain the only club that has not completely closed the door, but they are proceeding cautiously and must trim their squad and reduce their wage bill before considering a move.
It is unclear whether the Allianz Riviera will become the stage for his comeback. Martial left Monaco for Manchester United 11 years ago as one of Europe’s most promising attackers.
