Anthony Head, 'Buffy' and 'Ted Lasso' Star, Dies at 72
British actor Anthony Head has died at the age of 72. His daughters, Emily and Daisy, said he passed away peacefully of complications from pneumonia, surrounded by his family. They added that "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters," and that he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of his work.
Head first gained international fame on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Rupert Giles, appearing as a regular in the first five seasons (121 episodes) and returning in a recurring role in seasons six and seven. Giles served as Buffy Summers' mentor and surrogate father; a proposed spin-off did not proceed because of rights issues.
He was the second major Buffy star to die, following series lead Nicholas Brendon in March. In the 2020s Head took a darker turn as Rupert Mannion on Apple TV's Ted Lasso, starring across all three seasons and appearing in 18 of the show's 34 episodes.
