Anthony Gordon speaks fluent Spanish at Barcelona unveiling
Anthony Gordon has completed a £69.3 million (€80m) move from Newcastle United to Barcelona, signing a five-year contract with the Catalan club. The 25-year-old England international, who finished as the Magpies' top goalscorer last season, surprised the presentation crowd by conducting part of his first official press conference in fluent Spanish.
The former Everton forward was officially presented to the media on Friday night after finalising his transfer to Camp Nou. Newcastle left him as an unused substitute during their final four fixtures, seemingly to protect him ahead of the expected summer sale; the fee helps the club comply with financial regulations while granting Gordon his long-held wish to move abroad.
The forward said his language work had been years in the making: "I wanted to speak Spanish because, as I kid, I believed I would play for Barca, believe it or not.
