Another Final Fantasy 14 Ultimate raid, another controversy
The race to world first for Final Fantasy 14's new Kefka-themed Ultimate raid has ended, but not without controversy. World-first runs are tracked on MogTalk via live streams, and Ultimate races have repeatedly been marred by disputes over add-ons — most notably after the Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) race in 2024, when the winning team used a plug-in called "Pixel Perfect" that shows hitbox placement to help avoid damage.
The most recent clear, by a Japanese static known as "Name TBD," did not air live. The group instead submitted step-by-step videos to validate their run and was announced as the official world-first winner, a decision that has provoked widespread debate. Discussion on Reddit and X has been heated.
Some point to past FRU allegations and argue the streamed clearers, DN, should be recognised; others say failing to stream is not proof of cheating and can be a deliberate tactic to prevent rival teams from copying strategies.
