Ancelotti must change Brazil after disappointing World Cup opener
Brazil produced a disjointed display in their World Cup opener in New Jersey and came away with only a point, relying on a moment of magic from Vinicius Jr to snatch an equaliser. Having been inconsistent since Carlo Ancelotti's appointment a year ago, the performance left the coach with plenty to consider.
Midfield decisions were particularly baffling. Ancelotti replaced one veteran defensive midfielder with another at the break, bringing on 32-year-old Fabinho instead of United-bound Ederson, who had been a late call-up after an injury to Wesley. If the manager wants to usher in a new era he must give the 26-year-old his chance in midfield despite a less impressive season at club level with Atalanta, with the clash with Haiti offering an ideal platform.
The defence also needs attention. Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhaes and Marquinhos provide a strong centre-back pairing, but positions around them lack quality.
