Ancelotti: Brazil must share responsibility as Neymar battles injury
Carlo Ancelotti said Brazil no longer boast the individual icons of years gone by and must lean on a collective effort rather than expect a single superstar to carry the side. "The more experienced player has to have more responsibility, the younger player has to have less pressure.
We all have a lot of responsibility and pressure. And what should we do? Share it. It can't be individual; we have to share the pressure so that it decreases a little," he told reporters. He stressed a focus on defensive work while still protecting the attacking creativity of the squad.
"We've worked a lot on defense. We're going to work a lot on that. I don't want to take away the creativity of the attacking players. They have a lot of quality," Ancelotti said, noting defenders, full-backs and midfielders all have important roles. Neymar’s fitness remains the main talking point, the forward sidelined by a grade two calf injury and unable to take part in full training with the ball.
