Amazon prototyping Lord of the Rings game ideas, says exec
Amazon Games general manager Jeff Gattis says the company is prototyping ideas for Lord of the Rings video games as it searches for the right concept. In a constant state of evolution, Amazon’s gaming business has experimented with Twitch, a slate of MMOs, cloud gaming and more.
Gattis called the company's slice of Tolkien's Middle-earth rights "still part of our portfolio investigation" and confirmed creatives are testing concepts. "I looked at a prototype as something pretty interesting just a couple weeks ago," he said, adding, "I don't have a hard, 'This is what we're going to do' I can give you today." His comments follow news that Amazon's ambitions for a Lord of the Rings MMO quietly unraveled after the company's 2025 layoffs.
