Amazon MGM Outlines Plans for James Bond's New Chapter

Amazon MGM Studios gained full creative control of the James Bond franchise in a deal finalized in February 2025, after Amazon's initial acquisition of MGM closed in 2022. The change has prompted a structural and creative reboot: Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce, Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct, and Steven Knight is crafting a darker, more grounded story for Bond 26.

Auditions, led by casting director Nina Gold, began in May as the studio seeks a fresh face in their 30s for a multi-film run; no actor has been announced, though a clear frontrunner has emerged. Amazon MGM chief Mike Hopkins offered the first update on Bond 26 while speaking on Variety's Strictly Business podcast, stressing the project remains in early development.
