Amazon MGM Studios has pulled Luca Guadagnino’s nearly finished film Artificial, leaving the Andrew Garfield‑led project without a distributor as it is actively shopped to other studios. The biographical comedy‑drama had already undergone several test screenings that reportedly went over well with audiences.

Guadagnino directed from a script by Simon Rich, and the film follows OpenAI CEO Sam Altman through the chaotic 2023 weekend when he was fired and rehired. Garfield leads a large ensemble that includes Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, Yura Borisov as former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, and Monica Barbaro as former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, with Mark Rylance, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Koch, and Billie Lourd in supporting roles.

The studio did not give an explicit reason for the decision, though it comes months after Amazon announced a $50 billion investment and multi‑year strategic partnership with OpenAI, a move that presents a clear conflict of interest.
