Fulham are in advanced talks with former Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa, who has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Marco Silva at Craven Cottage. The 43-year-old took charge of Real Madrid on an interim basis after Xabi Alonso's departure in January but was unable to halt exits from the Copa del Rey, Champions League and La Liga title race, and left Los Blancos on Tuesday.

The club moved quickly after Kieran McKenna, long tipped as a favourite following his work at Ipswich, announced his resignation and said he is taking a break from management. That development prompted Fulham to pivot towards Arbeloa within days of his Madrid exit.

Fulham’s shortlist also includes Frank Lampard and Abel Ferreira, while Ruben Amorim has been mentioned despite reported advanced talks with AC Milan. Hugo Oliveira, who served on Silva’s coaching staff at Famalicao and now manages the Portuguese side, is seen as a continuity option if a deal for Arbeloa does not materialise.
