The Backrooms movie brings Kane Parsons' creepypasta vision to a wider audience and grew out of a 2022 web series set in the same universe. The film tells an original story but preserves nods to the series as Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Mary (Renate Reinsve), Bobby (Finn Bennett) and Kat (Lukita Maxwell) move through the Complex.

Several details trace directly to the web series: entry into the Backrooms—called "noclipping"—mirrors the 2019 4chan post that coined the term, and blue-tape doorways recur as markers for null zones, first seen in the series when a girl marks her garage. Clark uses tape at his furniture store, and the movie even recreates the original hobby-store image that started the creepypasta.

Other elements repeat across both works: objects and bodies clip through floors and walls, a Christmas-tree room hosts the "Still Life" entities, and Clark's unsettling drawings depict the "Captain Clark" Still Life surrounded by scrawled lines such as "Tables don't bleed blood" and "Why think in terms of magic??
