Matt Brown, 43, has died after his body was recovered from the Okanogan River, his brother Bear Brown said on TikTok. Bear said the body was positively identified as Matt and that their youngest brother, Noah, helped pull it from the water; the coroner must still examine him to determine an official cause of death.

The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call from someone who saw a man sitting in a shallow area of the river, found him face down and watched him swept away. A firearm was recovered near the spot, and search efforts were suspended because of dangerous river conditions.

Bear has said he believes Matt died by suicide, noting he had struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and had recently gone through a difficult breakup. Matt appeared on Alaskan Bush People from 2014 to 2019, appearing in 79 episodes of the Discovery+ series that followed the Brown family living off the grid.
