Alana Haim made Taylor Swift's 'Stevie Knicks' shirt with a Cricut
At Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Taylor Swift and the Haim sisters drew attention with matching 'knickname' T-shirts — including a 'Stevie Knicks' shirt Alana Haim says she made after buying a Cricut when she returned from her last tour. Cricut machines, with prices starting under $150, can precision-cut materials ranging from vinyl to paper to leather and can also write, draw and engrave.
Models mentioned include the compact Joy 2 for everyday projects, the Explore 5 that works with over 100 materials at higher speed, and the Maker 4, compatible with more than 300 materials including leather, wood and metal. Alana described her process: she used the Cricut to cut vinyl letters, bought the tees for $2.99 each at Michael's, put the vinyl on a screen, applied screen-printing paint with a squeegee and tried a puff-paste effect.
She said she loves making shirts for her friends and often has them over to create apparel as a creative outlet.
