Al Roker shares moment from granddaughter at his daughter’s wedding

During the June 1 broadcast, Al Roker recounted a moment from his daughter Leila’s early May wedding involving his nearly-3-year-old granddaughter Sky, who had been slated to be the ring bearer.

Sky woke up with a fever and was given Motrin, so her dad Wes carried the sleeping child down the aisle while Courtney scattered petals. The sight of the dozing ring bearer prompted everyone to say "Awww."

Craig Melvin added that Sky later woke up on the dance floor, which Roker confirmed.

Roker also said he attended the wedding in France and was asked by the CDC to voluntarily get tested after returning from Europe amid the cruise ship hantavirus outbreak; he passed the test. The 71-year-old, who marks 30 years with TODAY in 2026, told People in January that he hasn't thought about retirement and that he loves his job.
