Agbonlahor backs Messi to win Premier League and play at 2030 World Cup
Former England international Gabby Agbonlahor backed Lionel Messi to win the Premier League and Champions League if he signs for Aston Villa, and predicted the Argentina captain could still grace the 2030 World Cup at the age of 43. Speaking on the talkSPORT World Cup Breakfast show, Agbonlahor was asked which superstar he would want Aston Villa to sign from Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.
He chose Messi immediately: "Messi. I think Villa would win the Premier League." He added, "If Aston Villa sign Messi, Aston Villa win the Premier League and Champions League." Messi has enjoyed a record-breaking start to the tournament, becoming the oldest player to score a World Cup hat-trick with a treble in a 3-0 win over Algeria and following that with two goals in a 2-0 victory against Austria.
Those displays mean he has scored in each of his last six World Cup matches, reaching 18 goals to become the outright all-time top scorer.
