Active Reload changes in Gears of War: E-Day
Gears of War: E-Day is rebuilding the franchise’s 20-year-old foundations. The Coalition started from scratch to move the series to Unreal Engine 5, recreating every system, mechanic and art asset as it sets out to tell the story of Emergence Day, when Sera crumbled and the Locust emerged.
The game will remain a heavy-footed, cover-based shooter, but The Coalition is pushing for greater mobility, more verticality and slicker movement to bring urgency to combat. One notable change affects Active Reload, the small reloading minigame that can speed up your return to fighting.
"Active Reload has always been a massive part of Gears, it's an iconic feature," says creative director Matt Searcy. For E-Day, the Active Reload bar is moved to the middle of the screen by default.
