Action Thriller Hailed "Best of the Year" Charges Ahead at Box Office
Praised as the "best action movie of the year," The Furious is outperforming rivals at the box office. The Hong Kong-based thriller returns to the classic, bloody action style Hollywood rarely makes, and it is delivering the brutal spectacle action fans expect.
The film opened to a decent $17 million worldwide, with $13.5 million of that coming from the Chinese box office. Against a relatively low $20 million budget, that start points toward profitability. Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, The Furious was picked up for U.S.
distribution by Lionsgate after debuting at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and has been repeatedly compared to the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick. Critics have embraced the movie, which holds a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 95% user rating.
