A24 and Kojima Productions are moving forward with a live-action film set in the world of Death Stranding, with Michael Sarnoski attached to direct and Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen producing. The partnership reflects A24’s recent push into larger-scale projects, following its involvement with Alex Garland’s Elden Ring adaptation.

While promoting his upcoming film The Death of Robin Hood, Sarnoski said he is finishing an updated draft of the screenplay and has been working closely with Hideo Kojima and A24 on revisions. Both Kojima and the producers have read the draft and are collaborating on changes as Sarnoski wraps the script.

Sarnoski described Kojima as generous in letting him “play in his world,” while allowing the director to tell a story with his own characters and perspective that remains faithful to the game. Though the film’s narrative will stand apart from the games, Sarnoski indicated there could be references to Kojima’s characters, meaning familiar faces might appear on screen.
