Sequel officially titled A Minecraft Movie Squared

During a Minecraft Live showcase at TwitchCon Europe, Mojang confirmed the sequel to A Minecraft Movie is titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. Given Minecraft’s square-based voxel aesthetic, the name fits. A short behind-the-scenes video showed Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks hyping filming in New Zealand and teasing new biomes and mobs, and new cast members Matt Berry and Kirsten Dunst introduced themselves.

Mojang also announced and launched a build challenge for A Minecraft Movie Squared. Players can create and submit special builds between now and June 8 for a chance to be featured in the movie; only the winner’s build will make the sequel’s final cut, while other finalists will receive private screenings.

The sequel opens in theaters on July 27, 2027. The studio showcased upcoming game updates as well, including Chaos Cubed, which adds a sulfur cave biome and sulfur cube mob on June 16, and Drop 3 later this year, which adds the dappled forest biome.
