2026 Yellowstone spin-offs mark end of an era for Taylor Sheridan
With the 2026 premieres of Marshals and Dutton Ranch, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has become one of television's biggest franchises. Lawmen and The Madison were originally conceptualized as Yellowstone spin-offs but were remodeled as standalone shows, and there are now four spin-offs that place the neo‑Western alongside the worlds of NCIS, Law & Order, The Walking Dead, and Power.
Marshals caters to viewers who favored the original show's thrills and violence, while Dutton Ranch appeals to those who preferred the drama, each offering fresh insights into the Duttons and a broader picture of Montana. Sheridan did not write either 2026 spin-off.
He wrote all five seasons of Yellowstone and the prequel spin-offs 1883 and 1923, yet Marshals' Season 1 credited six writers and Dutton Ranch listed seven; Sheridan is credited only as an executive producer and is not a showrunner. He has long opposed writers' rooms, arguing, "I’m really interested in the dirty of the relationships in literally every scene.
