1860 Munich close to signing Phil Collins's son amid financial uncertainty
Mathew Collins, the 21-year-old son of musician Phil Collins, is set to join TSV 1860 Munich, though it remains unclear which league he will play in as the club faces serious financial uncertainty. The 1966 German champions risk dropping into the Regionalliga, the fourth tier, with their long-term status in doubt.
The club must prove its liquidity by Wednesday by finding 2.7 million euros. Whether controversial investor Hasan Ismaik will step in again to cover the shortfall is uncertain; if he refuses, the storied Munich side could tumble into the fourth tier for the second time since 2017.
Only eight current squad members are under contract for the Regionalliga. Collins, a midfielder from Austrian second-division side Austria Salzburg, is reported to have completed a trial in Giesing and will join regardless. He has previously played for Walldorf and Hannover 96.
